INTERLUDE: BODY + SPACE
Interlude: Body + Space was an 8 week summer course that explored the role of performance and interactivity within contemporary art making. Through the investigation of mixed media, including but not limited to drawing, sculptural processes, photography, video, and installation, students explored the possibilities of the collaboration between body and space.
The students were challenged to create objects or environments that incorporated interactive, performance and puppetry assignments. Many exercises were conducted to help the students better understand their processes, such as paper automata, cardboard extensions of the body, the DaDa Fruit Salad exercise, and shadow puppetry. At the end of the course, the students concluded with an exhibition of the work created throughout the summer session, including scheduled performances.
