SOURCE MATERIAL

Source Material was an interdisciplinary course that engaged in projects that considered alternative materials for the construction of installations and sculptural-based works. The first two weeks of the course were spent on daily "challenges," where the students would explore and experiment within a given criteria. The Plastic Challenge, the Expired Media Challenge, and the Packing Challenge were just some of these prompts. These challenges helped further push the students' investigation of materials for the rest of the assignments. The class ended with a one-night only student exhibition featuring sculpture and installation works made from nontraditional and recycled materials, at the UAB Visual Arts Gallery on June 18, 2014.
